West Creston Home
In the beginning....
We began construction on our Viceroy home in 2007. The builders commented often on the above average quality of materials. In the photos you can see that the foundation was constructed with insulated concrete forms. You can also see the pex tubing that was used throughout the home, including in the main and lower level concrete floors, providing geothermal in-floor heat. The geothermal is sourced from the property's artesian well. The loft has cork floors with the pex installed between the floor joists.
The lower level has high ceilings, and because the heat is provided through the floor, there is no ducting running through the space.
It's starting to come together....
We chose to finish the walls with a natural plaster, and found a tradeswoman in the West Kootenays to help us out. We worked as her helpers, mixing the plaster and even applying some of it!
One of the ingredients in the natural plaster is bullrush fluff, which we gathered from a pond down on West Creston Road.

Underneath it all.....
The concrete floors on the lower and main level have been stained with a blend of luscious colours.

Glass art abounds.....
The resident artist has filled the home with unique glass art inspired by the Creston Valley.

This is just some of the custom art found throughout the home.
Custom metalwork inside and out........
The loft and stair railings in the house were all custom made by a West Creston metalsmith. He also made the railing on the deck outside, along with several gates and arbors.
Beauty is on the outside.....
Much thought went into choosing the materials for the outside of the home.
The siding on the home and carport is Hardiplank, the metal roof was installed in 2019, Duradeck was added to the deck (along with soffit on the underside) in 2020, and the house was repainted in 2021. Whew!

The "Carport"...
We'd planned a simple carport, but got carried away! Eventually we had a carport which housed an office on the ground level and on the upper level an art studio, full bathroom and storage area. We had the building constructed in such a way that it could easily become a guest house, rental or Airbnb, plumbed and with electrical that would easily accommodate a washer and dryer. The interior of the carport is about 230 square feet on the lower level and 580 square feet above.
